Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Movie, July 15

It is the 5th year at Hogwarst School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry Potter has had a very stressful summer, with to live with his aunt and uncle, having to fight off the dementors, and knowing that Lord Voldemort has returned. Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore seems to delieve that Voldemort is getting into Harry's mind by using upsetting dreams in order to lead him into danger, so he demands that Harry take Occlumency lessons with Professor Snape, which should help Harry protect his mind against further invasions by Lord Voldemort. Harry is unsuccessful at Occlumency because he has such difficulty clearing his mind of all thoughts, making it difficult for him to focus on closing his mind off to all outside influence.

Connection:

The connection to the movie if it were true would be chapter 11, Defense Mechanisms. Harry must use the wizarding worlds form of repression to to keep him safe. Defense mechanisms happen in the unconsciousness. Repression is excluding uncomfortable thoughts, feelins and desires from your consciousness.

  1. I've always enjoyed Harry Potter and I really liked this connection. I think you did a great job a relating something from a different world and applying it to psychology. It was very 'out side of the box' thinking and it fit very well.
