True Life I Have OCD

True Life season 8, Televison show, June 13, 200

True Life I have obsessive-compulsive disorder shows the lives of two individals who spend hours a day couping with this disorder. Morgan is living with OCD, she is consumed with fear of her mother dying, so she does rituals to keep her mother alive, such as not looking in mirrors when she walks by, turning the lights on and off a number of times and each room and much more. Morgan is living on her own and does not want to live the rest of her life this way, so she desides to call in a specialist for treatment (this treatment cost her thousands of dollars). A part of Morgan's treatment is to face her fears. So at one piont she painfully watches blood being withdrawn from her mother's arm. Another part of Morgan's therapy is to face her worst fear and pretend to attend her mother's funeral. Morgan hasn't performed a ritual since her intensive therapy ended.
Ryan is a musician who has OCD for no reason, he believes. One of Ryan's rituals is to do things repeatedly. Here he checks his car doors to make sure they are locked, starts to leave, then returns to check again. Even when using the restroom, Ryan huffs and performs a ritual. Ryan feels that OCD prevents him from doing his music on tour, it even puts pressure on his relationship with his girlfriend. Ryan now uses working out as a distraction for his problem.

Connection:
This television show connects directly to chapter 12 dealing with anxiety disorders. OCD is when a person is plagues by persistent, upsetting, and unwarranted thought that motivate repetitive behaviors. Causes of this disorder can be biological, such as abnormalties in the brain's neurotransmitter systems or psychological factors such as impact on learning and environmental stressors.

  1. I have seen this particular show as well. OCD is a very interesting topic as there are so many variations of this disease. I did a blog on OCD where a woman always felt the need to pull her hair out. I guess the differences come with the stressors in each persons life.
